The Ministers jointly responsible for the Strategy are:
The GEG is chaired by the Chief Executive of Land Information New Zealand and is made up of chief executives of key public agencies. It is collectively accountable for the direction and implementation of the Strategy.
As at September 2009, the GEG consisted of chief executives (or functional equivalents) of:
The GSC replaces the former Geospatial Advisory Committe (GAC) in advising the GEG and facilitating the implementation of the decisions of the GEG and the Joint Ministerial Group.
The GSC is currently being transitioned to, following a review of the Strategy's governance, and will be established once a permanent Geospatial Custodian has been appointed to the NZGO. In the meantime, members of the GAC continue to play an important role in supporting the Strategy.

The NZGO is headed by the Geospatial Custodian and is the engine room of the Strategy. The NZGO helps to ensure geospatial resources can be readily discovered, appraised and accessed, and facilitates communication within the geospatial community.
NZGO has a reporting line within Land Information New Zealand (LINZ), as well as to the GEG in order to maintain a sectoral approach.
