Date: 9 July 2008
The key objectives of the New Zealand Police are Community Safety and Crime and Crash Reduction, through integrity and capability.
Geographic Information Systems (GIS) help deliver the capability to locate and verify emergency events when making an initial response. It is also the basis for Police crime analysis, using location-based queries to map a crime, in an Intranet application. An Intranet-based map viewer is planned for the future to enable all operational police to easily access GIS data and use it in the field.
