NZGO Builds National Geospatial Skills Database

On 3 March 2011, the New Zealand Geospatial Office offered to build a database of geospatial professionals who may be available to provide relief for the people based in Wellington and Christchurch who are working on Christchurch earthquake efforts.

The response rate has been terrific. The dataset, consisting of 120 professionals, has now been handed over to the Ministry of Civil Defence and Emergency Management.

If our original request didn't reach you, or if you weren't able to respond in time but wish to now, please email me on msevern@linz.govt.nz and I'll send you the form to complete. Skill sets which may be required include (but are not limited to):

  • Emergency management
  • Data capture (field work)
  • Establishment of GIS databases and systems
  • Cartographers
  • Data analysts - GIS, operational data
  • GIS software experience

It's our plan to keep this database current, so we'll be sending out a request for an update from you from time to time.

Thanks,

Mary Sue Severn
