The New Year is traditionally a time to take stock, to think back over the past year’s events and plan for what lies ahead. Land Information New Zealand’s (LINZ’s) purpose is to maintain and build confidence in property rights in land and geographic information as well as encourage land markets to develop and mature. Last week the NZGO took the first steps towards establishing a national spatial data infrastructure (SDI) for New Zealand. The publication, in the form of a cookbook, focuses on initial guidance for implementing an SDI targeted to government agencies and others interested in participating. read more

On 3 March 2011, the New Zealand Geospatial Office offered to build a database of geospatial professionals who may be available to provide relief for the people based in Wellington and Christchurch who are working on Christchurch earthquake efforts. read more
Late November saw the first Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) meeting to be held in the southern hemisphere take place at the University of Sydney. Attendees gathered for a week of standards and domain working group meetings. read more
On Monday, Cabinet agreed to the development of a national spatial data infrastructure for New Zealand, and directed Government agencies to get involved now - at the development stage. read more
I'm conscious of the fact that it's been quite some time since my last blog entry. I can attribute this to a general increase in activity in the Geospatial Office but more specifically to a particularly busy travel schedule. Over the last few months I've been regularly on the road, attending conferences or hosting events here in Wellington. read more
I am very pleased to announce the appointment of Richard Murcott to the role of Geospatial Standards Leader within the New Zealand Geospatial Office (NZGO). Richard joined Land Information New Zealand (LINZ) and assumed his new role on 18 October. read more
