Marnie Leybourne has been Director of the Western Australia Land Information System (WALIS) since 2004.
Western Australia is the ANZLIC jurisdiction with the most experience in the development of an integrated land information infrastructure as WALIS has been operating since 1981. Since 2000 the focus of WALIS has been on the development of the Shared Land Information Platform (SLIP).
SLIP is a shared information delivery system which provides fast and easy access to the State's land information. It is based on an enabling framework of connected servers to deliver real time spatial data. These data services are web enabled to allow direct use within end user software.
Last year Marnie became President of the Spatial Sciences Institute (SSI). SSI is the body covering Australia and New Zealand which combines the professional spatial disciplines into four complementary Commissions: The Land and Hydrographic Surveying Commission; the Spatial Information and Cartography Commission; The Engineering and Mining Surveying Commission; and the Remote Sensing and Photogrammetry Commission.
