The Christmas and New Year break is over for most but how many people are already planning their next trip away - and on a budget?
Air New Zealand have added a new function to their website, named for the question it helps customers to answer: How Far Can I Go? The interface is very simple and easy to use. Customers first select a main New Zealand centre to travel from and then use a sliding price scale to indicate how much they have to spend (from $0 - $8000). The application plots on a map where in New Zealand (or the world) they can travel to within their price range.
For this innovative and user-friendly application, Air New Zealand were finalists in the Computerworld Excellence Awards 2008 in the category "Innovative Use of ICT". The two other finalists were SilverStripe (whose Content Management System is used to maintain this website) and the Animal Health Board (who won) for their VectorNet application used in controlling bovine tuberculosis and possums.
