GIS Professional Certification Gains Momentum

Date: 8 May 2009

This year has seen the addition of two newly certified spatial practitioners under the Spatial Sciences Institute's Geographic Information System Professionals - Asia-Pacific (GISP-AP).

This year's recipients are Christopher Weir of Terralink International and Serge Peeters, a GIS Consultant. They join Cliff Bacon (GISP-AP Emeritus), Karl Majorhazi (Ministry for the Environment), Richard Murcott and Paul Hughes (Department of Conservation) to the list of New Zealanders.

GISP-AP is the highest level of certification for spatial information practitioners and is equivalent to GISP certification in the US. GISP-AP applicants submit a portfolio which is rigorously assessed by the SSI's certification panel for excellence in educational achievement, professional experience and the contributions the applicant has made to the profession.

Certification provides recipients with recognition and status, while employers and clients can have confidence that GISP-APs have passed a thorough assessment by their peers. GISP-AP certification is available to anyone who is able to meet the requirements of the certification panel.

NZGO would like to congratulate the GISP-APs on their impressive achievement!

More information on GISP-AP certification is available on SSI's website.
