Expressions of Interest for Advisory Group on NZ Geospatial Standards

Date: 18 March 2009

The New Zealand Geospatial Office (NZGO) is calling for expressions of interest in membership of an advisory group for a new project, Spatial Data Standards for New Zealand: Current State and Future Roles.

The project's key objective is to design an effective and consistent structure for the adoption, adaptation, development and maintenance of geospatial standards that promotes access and interoperability of geospatial data in New Zealand. The project will also identify how the New Zealand government can play an efficient and effective role in relation to geospatial standards.

We are seeking advisory group members from the public and private sector to provide valuable sector expertise and knowledge to test practical options for government involvement in geospatial data standards creation, use and maintenance.  The group will comprise 12-15 members. There will be three meetings in Wellington in April/May.

The time commitment for advisory group members is estimated at a few hours per meeting over the three meetings. The commitment should be small, as the advisory group will not be expected to produce any set documents. Instead, advisory group discussion will feed into the design of a workable structure for the adoption, adaptation, development and maintenance of geospatial data standards that can be recommended to the Geospatial Executive Group for implementation.

Terms of reference for the advisory group and the project are available here.

If you are interested in being a member of the group, please contact Sarah Mehrtens (smehrtens@linz.govt.nz) by 27 March 2009.
